Montalcino, Abbey of Sant’ Antimo

In my capacity as the Prior of the Abbey of Sant’ Antimo, in the month of November 2005, I was given the task by the Archbishop of “Siena – Colle Val d’Elsa – Montalcino”, for the pastoral responsibility for the Parish of Montalcino and as a consequence one of the neighbourhoods, known as Quartiere Pianello.  From time to time in the church in this Quartiere I celebrate Holy Mass, administer sacraments, and visit the sick and elderly.

The Church of San Pietro is very beautiful and a testament to the important history and culture of Montalcino. But it must be saved, because unfortunately we find it today in a dangerous condition.

Faced with this situation the members of Quartiere Pianello have decided to take in hand the grave situation and raise the money necessary for the restoration work, which is not only important, but also very costly.  The President of Quartiere Pianello, Signor Alessandro Faneschi, and a Committee working under his direction, have launched an international appeal to raise the funds necessary to restore the Church, and obviously in this endeavour they have my full support.

I have given my full support to this restoration project, and I invite and urge  you – the reader – to make a donation – small or large  – for this important project.

I look forward to the day when, together with the citizens who live in Quartiere Pianello, I will be able to officiate in the church of San Pietro when it is returned to its former splendour.
